Brian (25s):
All right, Welcome to the Get Lean Eat Clean podcast. My name is Brian Gryn. I hope you had a great weekend and hope you had a chance to listen to my interview with Austin Mao. We discussed his medicine retreat ceremony. He's the founder of one of the leading plant medicine retreats called Ceremonial. It is located between Denver and Boulder, Colorado. And ceremonial is rooted in creating a space for deep healing and transformation. And we discussed his personal healing with plant medicines along with what psychedelic therapy is, who it's for. We got into the ceremonial process for ayahuasca being unstuck with mushrooms and much, much more. So definitely a different type of interview with Austin Mao regarding plant medicines.
Brian (1m 10s):
Something that I think we're gonna start hearing more and more of, and I highly recommend this interview, if you've never even heard of plant medicines, this could be something that could be beneficial for you or a family member who is looking to get unstuck. So anyway, check out my interview with Austin Mao and on today's micro podcast we are gonna discuss methylene Blue. And if you're in the health and wellness industry, you've probably heard it about it before. If you're not, maybe you have or haven't. The interesting thing about Methylene Blue, it actually was first developed in 1876 as a dye for textiles. The blue dye for your genes was used with this methylene blue. That's a good chance. However, it wasn't until 1891 that it was introduced into medicine as a treatment for malaria and it's actually been a trusted staple of traditional medicine for over 140 years.
Brian (1m 58s):
So lots of reliability and studies behind Methylene Blue. And at the end of the week, my interview with Scott Scherer, who's the COO of transcriptions, which do produce methylene blue as one of their main stay products. We are gonna touch all about the usage of it, the benefits, but I figured today, yeah, figured I'd give you a background of a little bit about practical uses and the sort of the science back benefits of methylene blue. I've been actually using it for probably the last month or so, and here it is if you're watching on YouTube. This is, this is transcriptions. There's a few companies that do, you know, sell this for consumers and been using it a couple times a week.
Brian (2m 38s):
I do find that there, I do have a slight increase in energy, cognitive effects and I was just seeing how it was gonna affect my workouts. Definitely seeing an increase in energy for sure, and it's something that I just use a small do dosage of for me, I've been using about eight milligrams. I definitely recommend you start slow and sort of titrate yourself up. Scott and I talk about this as far as dosage is concerned. So I figured let's get into some of the health benefits of methylene blue and I'm just gonna read off the, the top five that, that I kept finding when I was doing some research. There's definitely, there are some more health benefits that are out there as well, but the top five that I found was one was cognitive function and methylene blue can boost memory and focus improving energy flow in your brain cells by enhancing mitochondrial efficiency.
Brian (3m 25s):
Methylene blue helps combat mental fatigue and maintain a sharp cognitive performance. Number two is increased energy and cellular stress. So methylene blue stimulates what's called a TP production, which we've talked about. This is the energy currency of your cells and this help bolsters both physical performance and reduce fatigue, making it particularly appealing for individuals looking for individuals looking to maintain an active lifestyle. This is one of the main reasons why I wanted, why I started using methylene blue myself. Number three is it's antioxidant protection and methylene blue neutralizes free radicals protecting cells from what's called oxidative stress. Almost think of this as if you cut open an apple free radicals attack the the inside of that apple and it makes and it turns it brown, right?
Brian (4m 12s):
So methylene blue helps prevent this. This is what's called oxidative stress and this happens to all of us from the air we breathe. So essentially when you have a pure antioxidant like this, it neutralizes these free radicals and it can help slow the effects of aging, protect against potential chronic conditions caused by this cellular energy. Number four are the mental health benefits. There's some early evidence suggesting that methylene blue may have some actually antidepressant like effects by improving the efficiency of neural signaling. So it's definitely some exciting potential for supporting a positive mental wellbeing. And number five was the skin and the anti-aging effects. Recent research indicates that Methylene Blue has some lasting skin health benefits from reducing fine lines to improving skin elasticity as an antioxidant.
Brian (5m 0s):
These properties help rejuvenate and protect the skin. So those are the five main ones. There's definitely some other ones out there. Plenty of research on methylene blue and I'll definitely leave a link in the show notes for descriptions, which we'll we're gonna talk more about with Scott coming up at the end of the week. As far as the use of methylene Blue, you know, this is something that you, you wanna sort of figure out on your own. I mean, I would definitely start with a low dose and sort of ease your way up. I started with four milligrams And now I'm up to eight milligrams and that seems like a good sweet spot for me. And you wanna find a company, whether it's transcriptions or some of these other ones out there that are pharmaceutical grade, making sure that you have the highest quality and it's pure and free from impurities. Also, as far as using it, I don't think it's necessarily something that you need to use every day.
Brian (5m 44s):
I think you can pick and choose. I used it when I was traveling as well And you know, I think using it two, maybe three times a week, you know, in spots, maybe around workouts and things like that might not be a bad idea if you're just looking for some enhanced physical performance. You know, one of the things that Scott talked about also as a beneficial property of methane blue is it's antimicrobial properties and we touch more about this, But it can effectively combat various pathogens including bacteria, fungi, and parasites. So making it useful for treating infections such as a urinary, in fact, urinary tract infections and malaria. So if you're looking for to support skin health, potentially mood stabilization, antioxidant effects, antimicrobial properties, energy boost, cognitive enhancement, methylene blue might be something to take a look at.
Brian (6m 32s):
Remember to always consult, you know, with your healthcare professional before starting any new supplementation and, and as far as dosage, remember to start slow and titrate up. But I have a feeling we're gonna be hearing more and more about Methylene Blue and it's something that's been around for 140 years. If you're looking to add something into your supplement routine, this might be a great one to add in. So let me know if you have any questions and definitely look out for my interview with Scott towards the end of the week. We can, we get into in much more detail than today, but I just wanted to give you sort of a high level regarding Methylene Blue and I appreciate you listening. If you have any questions, feel free to email me, Brian at Brian Gryn dot com and have a great rest of the week. We'll talk to you on Friday with another great interview.
