I hope you had a great weekend enjoying this fall weather up in Chicago and we got Halloween coming up, so love this time of year. Hopefully you had a chance to listen to my interview with Matt Tack. So if you haven't already, definitely check out episode 4 0 2, my interview with Matt Tack. Now in today's micro podcast, we are gonna get into a question that comes up quite a bit with a lot of people through the internet and my clients and people all around social media.
Brian (1m 12s):
Is the, are there some good health benefits regarding coffee? Because it's definitely one of the most consumed commodities out there. And I would say yes, there are. Coffee is much more than just a morning pick me up. Whether you're a coffee enthusiast, a health conscious individual, or a working professional, understanding some of the benefits of coffee can make you appreciate it and maybe use it strategically in your life. Now I'm gonna highlight about four main benefits of coffee. And one thing I would like to say is that not all coffee is created equal. To get the most benefit for your buck, you wanna look for a source that meets the following standards. One, organic coffee beans are porous So.
Brian (1m 53s):
they tend to soak up whatever pesticides or chemicals that might be used by neighboring plants. So choosing organic coffee ensures that you're avoiding these harmful substances. Number two, make sure you get in high quality beans that are grown at higher altitudes and in nutrient rich soil that tends to have a better flavor profile and higher antioxidant levels. Number three, make sure it's freshly roasted Coffees, antioxidants start to deteriorate after roasting. So choosing freshly roasted beans will give you the most potent dose of antioxidants. My wife and I actually use something called the spin coffee maker, and we buy our beans fresh, make sure that they're organic and sourced correctly.
Brian (2m 34s):
Definitely something you want to keep in mind and not just get just a regular plate of coffee, probably at a Dunking Donut or a Starbucks. If you could buy it and source it and make sure that it's from a credible place, this would go a long way for your health. Now, back to the benefits. Number one, it's a great source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are crucial for combating what's called oxidative stress. Oxidative stress gets taken on by environmental factors, by the foods that we eat, by the air that we breathe and could lead to chronic disease and aging. So drinking coffee regularly can provide a significant dose of these beneficial compounds helping to protect your body at the cellular level. Next, one of the most widely recognized benefits of coffees, its ability to improve brain function.
Brian (3m 18s):
The caffeine acts as a stimulant and leading to improved focus, alertness and cognitive performance. So I highly recommend you use coffee strategically. Something that I've been using as a pre-workout is just black coffee, little cream and some element salt, the chocolate salt, shake that up. And that's my pre-workout. I tend to just drink coffee before workout because I'm fairly sensitive to caffeine, so I just try to use it strategically. And this way I don't have to spend a ton of money on pre-workout drinks. I just have a little bit of coffee and I'm good to go. Now, supporting gut health, something that doesn't get talked a ton about, but beyond caffeine, coffee contains something called polyphenols, which can have a positive effect on your gut microbiome.
Brian (3m 59s):
Now these compounds can help foster a healthy gut environment promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria and a balanced gut microbiome is essential for overall health, influencing everything from digestion to immune function Next, and it's the best time to consume coffee. Well, I would say obviously you don't wanna be drinking coffee too late in the day 'cause it could last in your system anywhere from six to eight hours. There's no scientific evidence as as far as the best time, but you wanna make sure that you wait a little bit of time before you drink that cup of Joe. I would say mid-morning to late morning is the best time, somewhere between nine 30 and 11:00 AM to get that, to get the most benefits you can get from caffeine. Now. I also avoid drinking coffee after, let's say two to three o'clock, especially if you have trouble falling asleep because coffee can disrupt your sleep patterns, which can last up to about eight hours in your system.
Brian (4m 48s):
There you have it. There's some great health benefits to coffee as long as you use it strategically and buy it from a quality source. You can use coffee as an anti, as a great antioxidant. Enhanced brain function can help enhance brain function, boost physical performance, support, gut health, and much, much more. Also reasons Dr. Ray Pete recommends drinking coffee every day is to stimulate thyroid function and also help prevent inflammatory diseases. So if you're a fan of Ray Pete, he was definitely a big fan of using coffee to help stimulate thyroid function. There's some great benefits when it comes to coffee from antioxidant uptake to improve brain function, enhance physical performance and gut health support.
Brian (5m 28s):
So by consuming coffee mindfully and at the right times, you can maximize these benefits and enjoy every sip knowing it's going to do your body some good, whether you're relying on coffee to fuel your workday or enhance your workout. There's no denying that the power of this leverage to promote overall wellbeing. Again, I appreciate you listening. Have a great rest of the day and enjoy that cup of Joe responsibly. Thanks so much. Thanks for listening to the Get Lean Eat Clean Podcast. I
