Brian (1s):

Hello and welcome to the Get Lean Eat Clean podcast. My name is Brian Gryn. I'm a certified health coach, trainer and author, and this podcast is for middle aged men and women looking to optimize their health and get their bodies back to what it once was 10 to 15 years ago. I will give you simple, actionable items to get long term sustainable results. Thanks for listening and enjoy the show. If I had to boil down the majority of gut issues to one core problem, it would be low stomach acid, also known as HCL, which stands for hydrochloric acid. Now, this essential digestive fluid plays a crucial role in breaking down food, absorbing nutrients, and eliminating harmful bacteria.

Brian (45s):

Now, when stomach acid levels are insufficient, it can lead to a range of digestive issues, including bloating, gas, and nutrient deficiencies. By addressing low stomach acid, you can unlock improved digestion and enhance your overall gut health. Paving the way for better nutrient absorption and a more balanced digestive system. Now, signs of low stomach acid, poor digestion, struggling to digest meals efficiently, it might be due to insufficient stomach acid. Number two, bloating and gas. Uncomfortable bloating gas can be symptoms of low HCL. Number three, fatigue. If you often feel tired after meals, your body might not be absorbing nutrients properly. Aging stomach acid production tends to decrease with age, making it crucial to monitor your levels as you grow older.

Brian (1m 32s):

Parasite overgrowth conditions like SIBO and candida often lead to low stomach acid levels as well. Now, what causes low HDL? Well, there could be several factors contributing to low stomach acid production. A primary cause is a lack of animal protein in the diet. As inadequate protein consumption leads to reduced HDL secretion. Additionally, essential nutrients found in animal foods such as zinc and B vitamins plays a critical role in the synthesis of stomach acid. Other factors that could contribute to low HCL include chronic stress. Stress is known to reduce stomach acid production as it diverts resources away from digestion medications.

Brian (2m 13s):

Certain medications such as anac acids and proton pump inhibitors. PPIs can lower stomach acid levels over time as well. Processed foods. If you're consuming a diet high in processed foods, this can lead to a disruption in your natural digestive process and decrease HCL production as well. Another factor to consider is low sodium intake. Diets low in salt can induce stress on the body and may not be as beneficial as often believed, particularly with regard to hypertension. Some other various external elements can hinder HCL production as well, including certain pharmaceuticals, environmental toxins, and excessive stress. It's commonly said you are what you eat, but a more accurate statement would be that you are what you absorb.

Brian (2m 56s):

Thus, ensuring that stomach acid levels are optimal is crucial for overall health. Now, how can we increase stomach acid? Consider incorporating the following habits to help boost your stomach acids naturally. One, chewing your food thoroughly. Chewing breaks down food into smaller particles, making it easier for your stomach to process. Aim to chew each bite at least 20 times. Next, consuming apple cider vinegar, mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with water and drink it before meals. This can help kickstart your stomach acid production. Also eating ginger. Ginger stimulates digestive juices and can help increase stomach acid levels as well.

Brian (3m 37s):

Try adding it to your meals or drinking ginger tea. Next, avoid excessive water during meals, drinking too much water while eating, can dilute stomach acid. Maybe sip water if needed, but I would avoid large quantities during meals. Next, it might be helpful to incorporate HCL supplements. Now, there's a daily gut protocol by Wild Co, and this is Colin Stucker, who I've had on the podcast in the past. It has fulvic acid, an antioxidant powerhouse that heals and strengthens the gut lining magnesium, along with a prebiotic and a probiotic. I'll definitely leave a link in the show notes if you wanna check out that protocol. Now, in conclusion, low stomach acid levels can lead to a range of digestive issues and hinder proper nutrient absorption.

Brian (4m 19s):
