All, right Welcome to the Get Lean Eat Clean podcast. My name is Brian Gryn. I hope you had a great weekend and hopefully had a chance to listen to episode 4 0 8. My interview with Dr. Mark Morse. We talked all about fitness competitions, Mark's training routine with his kids, the importance of non-exercise activity, thermogenesis, the Dr Mark method, and much, much more. So highly recommend my interview with Dr. Mark. That's episode 4 0 8. Now on today's micro podcast, we are gonna get into something that I've been using a lot lately, and I think it could be beneficial for your health because it's sort of a growing, popular trend that I think is gonna be more than just a trend. It's gonna be a sort of a mainstay for health enthusiasts alike, and that's red light therapy.
Brian (1m 9s):
So we're gonna talk about what it is, the benefits and why so many people are talking about it. Now, some of the main benefits include the following, stimulates wound healing and tissue repair, reducing aging effects by supporting collagen production, reducing pain by decreasing swelling and inflammation, improving joint health, physical performance through improved muscle recovery and energy levels, and improving sleep quality and duration. So a myriad of potential benefits regarding red light therapy. And you're probably asking, well, how can a light do this? And I actually have one here if you're watching on YouTube, little mito red light lamp. So let me explain a little bit about red light therapy.
Brian (1m 49s):
It's a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of red and infrared light to promote healing and regeneration in the body. This therapy involves exposing the skin to low levels of these wavelengths, which can penetrate deep into the tissues without causing any harm. The process is simple and painless, typically performed using specialized device such as panels or handheld gadgets. Now, while this might sound a bit futuristic, it's rooted in science and has been studied for over four decades. Initially, red light therapy was used by NASA to aid in plant growth experiments in space. However, its benefits quickly caught the attention of researchers in the medical and health communities.
Brian (2m 29s):
So how come red light therapy is so effective? Well, it's the interaction between the light and the cells in our bodies. When red and near infrared light wavelengths penetrate the skin, they're absorbed by the mitochondria, the powerhouse of our cells. This absorption stimulates the mitochondria to produce more a TP, the energy currency of our cells leading to a cascade of beneficial effects. Studies indicate that the stimulative effect of red light therapy on mitochondria enhances cellular function and promotes tissue repair. This means that the cells can actually recover even faster and function optimum, whether they're skin cells, muscle cells, or even brain cells. The increased A TP production also contributes to reduced inflammation, a common underlying factor in many chronic conditions.
Brian (3m 14s):
The idea that simply shifting light on the body can improve health may sound a bit too good to be true. However, there's a substantial body of research that supports the efficacy of red light therapy explaining how it influences cellular processes and contributes to overall wellbeing. Now for fitness enthusiasts and athletes, red light therapy offers a host of benefits that can enhance performance and speed up recovery. One of the most notable advantages of red light therapy is its ability to reduce muscle soreness and inflammation after intense workouts. By promoting faster muscle healing, promoting faster healing of muscle fibers, it allows individuals to train more frequently and efficiently. Additionally, red light therapy has been shown to improve circulation, which is crucial for delivering oxygen and nutrients to muscles during exercise enhanced blood flow, not only boost endurance, but also aids in the removal of what's called metabolic waste.
Brian (4m 6s):
Products like lactic acid, further reducing post-exercise fatigue. So many athletes have started to incorporate red light therapy into their recovery routines as a way to optimize their performance and minimize downtime. Another way you can use red light to your advantage is with skin health and some anti-aging effects. One of the most widely recognized benefits of red light therapy is the positive impact on your skin health exposure to red light and near infra Redd light stimulates collagen production, a vital protein for responsible for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness with age collagen levels naturally decline leading to wrinkles and a sagging skin. By boosting collagen production, red light therapy can help produce the impairs of fine lines and wrinkles, giving your skin a more youthful and rejuvenated look.
Brian (4m 52s):
More ovo red light therapy has been shown to accelerate the healing process of wounds and scars, making an excellent option for individuals dealing with acne scars, surgical scars, and other forms of skin damage. Lastly I'm gonna speak on today is how red light therapy can improve sleep and mental wellbeing. Red light therapy has shown promise in promoting better sleep by regulating the body's natural circadian rhythm. I wrote exposure to red light before bedtime can enhance melatonin production, the hormone responsible for sleep regulation. Furthermore, some studies have suggested that red light therapy may have a positive impact on mood and cognitive function by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain.
Brian (5m 33s):
Red light therapy may contribute to improved mental clarity and reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression for individuals struggling with sleep issues or seeking to enhance their mental wellbeing, especially in the winter months where, you know, here in Chicago we don't see the sun as much. I think red light therapy could be a beneficial therapy. I've been using mine in the morning, in the evening. I have to say I do think it improves my sleep quality and quantity. Now, integrating red light therapy into your daily routine could be very easy and convenient thanks to the the various companies that have been coming out with these red light devices. I have no financial ties to any of these. I recently just purchased one that put by my bed, which I have right here.
Brian (6m 16s):
If you're watching on YouTube by Mido Red Light And. you know, I think they're, I actually if, if, if you are looking to add in a red light panel, they are running a special coming up where you can get some discounts off for Black Friday and things like that. But there's a ton of quality red light therapy devices out there, either full body panel, handheld devices, or like a targeted treatment of a mask. So consider using red light therapy a few minutes a day, which is what I've been doing mainly in the mornings and the evenings. Focus on areas of body that need attention like sore muscles, facial skin, or joints experiencing discomfort. Like I said to you before, I think for me the biggest initial benefit I found from using a red light is get you in sort of lax state and has helped better improve my sleep.
Brian (7m 5s):
So, you know, in conclusion, I'd say that Red light therapy obviously offers a a myriad of benefits for wellness enthusiasts, fitness pros, middle aged men and women to improve their health and wellbeing from enhancing muscle recovery and skin health to promoting better sleep and mental clarity. I would say Red light therapy is a versatile and accessible therapy for a promising future. I'm sure we're gonna hear more and more about it As research continues to uncover new applications and benefits of red light therapy and its popularity is likely to grow even further. Like any of these sort of biohacks, this is a tool to use. It's not the end all, but I do think it's something that you should think about, especially if you're someone who doesn't get out in the sun and they're struggling with sleep or smooth disorders when it comes to winter.
Brian (7m 47s):
