Brian (25s):

All, right Welcome to the Get Lean Eat Clean podcast. My name is Brian Gryn. I hope you had a great weekend. Hope you had a chance to listen to my interview with gut health expert and founder of Gut Reset 1, 2 3. Melissa Pecky. We touched on all about her eight root causes of constipation, importance of gut health, testing the chemicals to avoid the problems with our tap water and much, much more. So if you haven't already, definitely listened to my interview with Melissa. That's episode 3 92. Now on today's micro podcast, I'm gonna piggyback off my interview with the gut health expert, Melissa. and we are gonna touch on some ways that we can avoid constipation as we age, because the modern day is moving faster, but our digestive systems are slowing down.

Brian (1m 6s):

So for many of you, health conscious adults, the importance of digestive health is probably tops of the list when it comes to overall health and each passing year that goes by, we have to be really cognizant of what we're eating, what we're putting in our body, how we're handling the stress from our environment and the quality of our sleep. I really didn't think it's important to get ahead of this, and it's not, it's something as I talked with Melissa that doesn't get talked enough about. So, you know, one of the things that can play role in helping to avoid constipation with most, what most people understand is fiber and Now I know there's a lot of carnivores out there and intermittent fasts. And I think there's nothing wrong with, with implementing these, I would say styles of eating and tools, but I also think that you wanna be aware of how frequently you are going to the washroom and making sure that we're getting at least one healthy poop a day, which is what Melissa talked about.

Brian (2m 2s):

And so if you do find that you aren't going at least once a day, perhaps it's time to implement some healthy fruits and maybe some cooked vegetables into the mix. Because one thing I noticed when I was eating fairly low carb and fasting is I was not pooping as often. And. now that I've implemented mainly fruits into my diet, especially in the morning, I am going much more regularly and feeling much better. So one of the reasons is because the fiber count has gone up and we all know that fruits and vegetables and even legumes are fairly higher in fiber. So, and fiber is also not just about keeping things moving, it feeds the good bacteria to the gut to promote a healthy microbiome.

Brian (2m 47s):

So along with making sure that we're getting some fiber in the diet, exercise and physical activity is crucial for good digestion as well. Regular exercise can help stimulate the muscles in your digestive track, which can promote regular bowel movements as well, walking, which I love to do at least three times a day. Yoga, swimming, lifting weights. I would aim for, you know, just moderate exercise during the day and this will help ke keep things moving as well. Hydration is Im is important as well. I would say a quality mineral would be great. Breaks down foods absorb nutrients and helps keep things moving through the digestive tract. And dehydration could lead to hard stools and also constipation.

Brian (3m 29s):

So definitely wanna make sure we're getting some quality mineral water in. Also, stress management can help with gut issues. Chronic stress can reha it on your digestive track. So I've been implementing a 10 minute meditation every morning to help with stress management. The meditation that I've been using is actually just a, a free YouTube channel called Boho Beautiful Yoga. She does yoga and meditation and definitely check that out if you're looking for some, some type of guided meditation, I'll leave a link in the show notes for that. But it's important to engage in these daily and weekly activities of stress management because, oh, it's one of those things where if you just let it compound over time, in the beginning it might not seem like much, but that those acute stressors can become chronic So.

Brian (4m 10s):

we definitely wanna make sure we get ahead of that. And this will help lead to more of a healthy work life balance, which can also contribute to a healthier gut. So constipation is one of those things that can, is prevalent and often overlooked health concern that can have long-term effects on our overall wellbeing. We wanna make sure that we get ahead of it, implement healthy fruits and vegetables, make sure that we're maintaining hydration, managing stress levels, and engaging in regular physical activity. we can prevent and manage constipation for a healthier digestive system. Also, if you're looking to add some gut healing ingredients into your life, there's, there's a few things that I've gotten from my good friend Colin Stucker, and he's mentioned a few things like fulvic acid, magnesium prebiotics, and probiotics, eating slower, eating some fermented foods from time to time, and collagen and collagen boosting foods can all have gut healing properties.

Brian (5m 2s):

So with that being said, remember always listen to your body and if you are experiencing chronic or severe symptoms, it's time to reach out to a healthcare professional.
