Guest Appearance #11 – Intermittent Fasting Stories – Episode 19: Brian Gryn

April 8, 2021 in Podcast

Intro

In this episode of the Intermittent Fasting Stories podcast, host Gin Stephens has a conversation with health coach and trainer Brian Gryn about his journey with intermittent fasting. Brian got into IF three years ago after being introduced to it by a client of his who was pre-diabetic. He promptly dived into it and applied it to his everyday life. Fasting brought several positive changes for Brian. It sped up his metabolism and returned it to levels of a decade ago, helping him lose weight. It also helped with his mental acuity and sharpness, which is a commonly reported change with IF, especially during the fasting phase. According to him, there is no need to be worried about losing muscle when fasting since your body will first use glucose and then fat stores before your muscle mass. Brian shares his belief that when we are eating constantly throughout the day, the hunger that we feel is not true hunger, but more along the lines of a habitual pattern our bodies are used to. Sometimes what we feel as ‘hunger’ might be simple dehydration. Additionally, he prefers to eat “clean” food since it will also keep you satiated for longer periods of time. IF has consistently proven itself to be a sustainable lifestyle, while methods such as counting calories are not as likely to provide long term success. At the end of the episode, Brian shares advice for those stuck in a plateau. If you seem stuck, you can try either to modify the fasting/eating window times (start earlier or later in the day with the same ratio), or change what you eat. These two things may make a difference for you.
