All, right Welcome to the Get Lean Eat Clean podcast. My name is Brian Gryn. I hope you had a great weekend and happy Tuesday. If you listen to us on Tuesday, hopefully a chance to listen to my interview with Brooks Coleman. We touched on his five principles to optimizing your health. We got into the importance of flexible dieting, problems with too much restriction. Walking is a health hack and Brooks' daily routine, so really enjoyed my interview with Brooks. So definitely check out episode three 90 the next time you're driving in the car. So. we all know weight loss can be a challenging journey for many. It seems like no matter what they try to do, they can't change the scale, it won't budge.
Brian (1m 7s):
And as you I've talked about in years past, it's not all about the scale. But if you've been struggling with what's called weight loss resistance, I'm gonna give you six reasons why you can't lose weight. Number one, you could be restricting too much undereating. Undereating can significantly impact your metabolism. When your body doesn't receive enough calories, it can go into survival mode, slowing down your metabolic rate to conserve energy. So this makes weight loss increasingly difficult and can lead to muscle loss, nutrient deficiencies, and a whole host of other health issues. So make sure you track your calories and consult with a professional in order to titrate those calories up and make sure that you're eating enough nutrient dense foods to fuel your body throughout the day.
Brian (1m 50s):
Number two is having not enough muscle. Muscle is a metabolically active tissue, meaning it burns more calories at rest compared to fat. If you lack sufficient muscle mass, your resting metabolic rate may be lower, making it harder to lose weight. Incorporating strength training exercises into your routine at least twice a week can help build muscle, boost your metabolism and support sustained weight loss. Number three is inflammation. Inflammatory responses can be triggered by various factors including poor diet, stress, and environmental toxins. To reduce inflammation, we wanna make sure that we focus on consuming anti-inflammatory foods such as leafy greens, berries, even nuts from time to time fatty fish, making sure that we're getting nutrient dense foods.
Brian (2m 40s):
Additionally, cutting out processed foods can definitely help lower inflammation and managing stress through mindfulness practices and ensuring adequate sleep can help lower inflammation levels. Number four is poor circadian health disruptions to your circadian rhythm. AKA, your internal clock, often caused by irregular sleep patterns. Exposure to artificial light and shift work can negatively impact your metabolism and weight. Prioritize. Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule and reducing exposure to screens close to bedtime will definitely help. Making sure you sleep in a cool, dark environment is also a great health hack as well. Number five, poor thyroid health.
Brian (3m 21s):
The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate metabolism. Hypothyroidism can lead to a slow metabolic rate, fatigue and weight gain. If you're experiencing unexplained weight gain, fatigue and cold intolerance, it's worth getting your thyroid check. Proper diagnosis and treatment can help manage thyroid related weight issues. Number six, mineral imbalances. Imbalances in key minerals such as magnesium, zinc, and iron can impair your body's ability to process food efficiently leading to what's called weight loss resistance. A well-rounded diet that includes a variety of foods can help maintain mineral balance. If you suspect mineral deficiencies, it might be time to get proper blood work or a here mineral test as well.
Brian (4m 5s):
