3 Metabolic Mistakes Killing Your Results

by briangryn | August 27, 2026 | Eat Clean Get Lean

Hey Everyone,

If you are over 40 and struggling with lower energy and thicker waistline.

It's probably not because you're lazy.

It's because most men over 40 are making the same 3 quiet metabolic mistakes — and the harder they try, the more they spin their wheels.

I break down all 3 (and what to do instead) in this week's video 👇

🥔 Mistake #1 — Cutting Carbs Too Hard

A lot of guys treat carbs as the enemy and keep pushing them lower in the name of fat loss. It can work for a bit on the scale — but over time it leaves you flat, cold, and under-recovered.

— Carbs are fuel — they support thyroid function, training performance, and a stable nervous system.

— Quality over zero — the problem usually isn't carbs, it's processed carbs and random late-night eating.

— The shift — stop asking "how few carbs can I eat," start asking "how do I use carbs to support my metabolism."

Think real-food carbs — fruit, potatoes, rice, a little honey — paired with protein, not white-knuckling through the day on empty.

⏱️ Mistake #2 — Fasting Too Long (I used to do this)

More hours without food sounds like more fat burned. But push the window too far and it becomes a stress problem, not a fat-loss solution.

— The cost — long fasts can mean higher cortisol, worse sleep, lower libido, and a body stuck in survival mode.

— The dose matters — a realistic window for most men over 40 is 12–14 hours, not 18–20.

— The rhythm — first meal within about an hour of waking, last meal 3–4 hours before bed.

Stop trying to "win" fasting and start eating in a way that actually supports your system.

🏋️ Mistake #3 — Training Too Hard Without Recovery

Your body doesn't care about ego — it cares about recovery. Lifting hard, doing too much cardio, under-sleeping, and eating like a competitor year-round is a recipe for stress, not progress.

— What works — 2–4 strength sessions per week, some walking (love this), and enough sleep and food to actually recover.

— The connection — under-eat carbs and over-fast, and your recovery from training tanks — then training adds stress instead of results.

These three mistakes feed each other. Fix them together and your body starts responding again.

If you've been stuck, frustrated, and doing everything "right" — this is the video that connects the dots. 🎬

Eat real food. Train hard. Stay consistent.
